The short version
- Nothing illegal, harmful, infringing or deceptive on anything we host or build.
- No spam, phishing, malware, hacking, or attacks on other systems.
- Use shared resources fairly, keep your software and passwords up to date, and tell us about security problems.
- Serious breaches can lead to immediate suspension, as set out in our Terms & Conditions.
Who this applies to
This policy applies to every client and user of the hosting, servers, email, domain, platform, app, AI and support services provided by Spy-da Productions Ltd, trading as SPL Web Services. It forms part of our Terms & Conditions. You are responsible for anyone who uses your services, including your staff, contractors, customers and website visitors.
Illegal and harmful content
You must not use our services to store, publish, send or link to material that:
- is illegal in the UK, or promotes or facilitates illegal activity;
- sexually exploits or endangers children, in any form — we report this to the authorities;
- is terrorist content, incites violence or hatred, or harasses, threatens or bullies anyone;
- infringes copyright, trade marks or other intellectual property, including pirated software, media or music;
- is defamatory, fraudulent, deceptive or misleading, including fake shops, scams, phishing pages or pages impersonating another organisation;
- breaches anyone's privacy or data protection rights, or publishes personal data without a lawful basis;
- sells or promotes illegal drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods or other prohibited items;
- is adult or gambling content, unless we have agreed to it in writing and you hold any licences and age-verification measures the law requires.
Security and network abuse
You must not:
- host, distribute or link to malware, viruses, ransomware, botnets or exploit kits;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, account or data, including ours and other customers';
- carry out port scans, vulnerability scans, penetration tests or load tests against our systems, or other people's, without written permission;
- launch or take part in denial-of-service attacks;
- run open proxies, open mail relays, cryptocurrency mining, or IRC or torrent servers on shared hosting;
- forge headers, IP addresses or other identifying information;
- share hosting or control panel accounts with people who are not authorised.
You must keep software, plugins and themes you manage up to date, use strong unique passwords and multi-factor authentication where available, and tell us promptly if you suspect a compromise.
Email and messaging
- Do not send spam or unsolicited bulk email, or email to purchased, rented or scraped lists.
- Follow the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations: send marketing only where you have consent or the soft opt-in applies, identify yourself clearly and include a working unsubscribe link.
- Do not use our mail servers for large mailing campaigns. Use a dedicated email marketing provider — we can help you set one up.
- Stay within the sending limits of your package.
If your account causes our servers to be blacklisted, we may suspend email and charge for the work needed to restore our reputation.
Fair use of resources
Hosting is shared infrastructure. You must not use processing, memory, storage, bandwidth, databases or connections in a way that harms performance for other customers. Hosting space is for your website, apps and email — not for file storage, backups of other systems or media distribution unless agreed. If your use goes beyond your package, we will contact you about an upgrade and may limit resources to protect the service.
AI features
Where your service includes AI features, you must not use them to:
- create unlawful, harmful, deceptive or infringing content;
- impersonate real people or organisations, or create deepfakes without consent;
- make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on people without meaningful human review;
- process special category data or children's data unless we have agreed it in writing and you have assessed the risks;
- break the usage policies of the underlying AI provider.
Your users and customers
If your website or platform lets other people post content or create accounts, you are responsible for having suitable terms, moderation and complaint processes, and for acting promptly on reports of illegal content. This may include duties under the Online Safety Act 2023 if your service allows users to share content with each other.
Reporting abuse
To report spam, phishing, malware, copyright infringement or other abuse involving a service we host, email info@splwebservices.com with the website or email address involved, a description and any evidence. To report a security vulnerability in our own systems, please email us before disclosing it publicly so we can fix it.
What we may do
If we reasonably believe this policy has been broken, we may:
- contact you and ask you to fix the problem within a set time;
- remove or disable access to the content concerned;
- restrict or suspend the service immediately where there is a serious risk, as set out in our Terms & Conditions;
- end the service for serious or repeated breaches;
- report illegal activity to the police or other authorities and cooperate with lawful requests.
We are not obliged to monitor content, but we may investigate when we become aware of a possible breach. We may update this policy from time to time.
